Malcolm’s Expertise in Antiques Valuations

Malcom often carries out antiques valuations on longcase or grandfather clocks.

Malcolm’s wide experience in the fields of antiques restoration and valuation means that he is ideally suited to deal with particularly difficult cases, he has a broad knowledge across the whole antiques spectrum and has worked with and for many auction houses across the world.

Malcolm is capable of valuing antique clocks particularly early long case clocks and bracket clocks (early clock mechanisms are his specialty), Malcolm is also skilled in the valuation of silver, European and continental fine art and he is also a competent restorer and valuer of Japanese and Chinese ivory sculpture.

Malcolm is also capable of handling and valuing after the event items such as those involving fire or flood damage. He is also well-placed to calculate the cost of restoring the damaged items, and can even carry out this work if required, through his business Green and Cockburn antique restoration.

His expertise, built up over more than three decades, means that he can also distinguish easily between genuine period pieces and more contemporary replicas. This is again made possible by his expertise in the restoration field.

Having worked on restoring many different pieces over the years, so Malcolm is able to spot the ways in which craftsmen traditionally built furniture in a particular period. He can also recognize the type of tool marks that should be present on a piece of the correct age. Antiques valuations will vary significantly of course, between a genuine piece and a modern reproduction.

Worried about fraud?

Should you have cause to suspect that you may have been duped as an unsuspecting purchaser, it will certainly pay to consult Malcolm Green Valuations for advice, before seeking any recompense from the vendor. Malcolm’s antiques valuations of the copy versus the original will allow you to calculate an accurate figure to reflect your loss.

Furthermore, Malcolm will also be able to highlight the differences between the two pieces, in the form of an expert report. This will be presented in such a way that it can be used in a court of law if necessary.

Malcolm Green Valuations specialise in clocks, as well as furniture and other objects from the medieval period through to the 19th century. They are also able to advise with regards to later pieces, and contemporary items such as film posters. In the field of jewellery, Malcolm will work in association with respected colleagues, in order to obtain the most accurate antiques valuations for your items.

You can be certain that if you ask for any antiques valuations for any purpose from Malcolm Green Valuations, you will be in the very best of expert hands, and will receive honest, dependable advice.
